Shardlow
Shardlow won a rosette a few years ago at the Bakewell Show because she was the first Balmoral Donkey ever to be shown there. Balmoral Donkeys have dark, red-brown coats and long, shaggy hair rather like highland cattle. When we first got her from Holmfirth Market, her coat was so matted that Annie had to cut it off in chunks. Also, her feet were extremely sore as her hooves had been trimmed with a garden spade. Shardlow is still rather nervous of strangers but, once she has made friends with you, she loves to have her hair gently brushed.
